operational information

Once we have received your online application, an interview will be held with the principal and classroom lead. If all criteria are met, our parent contract and Nova intake form will be sent to you.

Admission criteria:

  • Child must have severe communication difficulties with or without physical disability

  • Child must show a potential to learn

  • There must be AAC buy-in from the parents

  • Child must be between the ages of 18 months and 8 years

  • Any AAC method will be accepted.

  • Parents are advised that for best outcomes, we recommend that each child has a compee (communication partner) who will accompany the child to school every day. A compee is required to assist with learning and model AAC. The compee will be supported and trained by the classroom lead.

  • We accept children with cortical vision impairment

  • Due to the nature of our class setup and teaching structure, we currently do not accept children who are deaf, blind or have functional fine motor ability. This may change in the future as Nova grows and there are multiple classrooms to accommodate different abilities.

An informal meeting of the child will be arranged prior to admission.
